Curry Hicks Sage spent two decades (a bit less under the Sage moniker) posting his musings on the internet about college basketball before deciding to monetize his avocation and formally launch a paywalled site. He grew up near the campus of the University of Massachusetts at the very moment that John Calipari was conducting the greatest rebuilding job in the history of collegiate sports. Despite not attending the school, he remained a rabid UMass fan and created the UMass Basketball Podcast in 2017.

In 2022, when UMass was conducting a coaching search for a new basketball coach, he began tracking the search nightly on Twitter's then-nascent live audio platform, Spaces. What began as a comedic attempt to organize UMass fans into cyberbullying the school's Athletic Director into making a splashy hire eventually turned into SearchSZN, a national X Spaces show and podcast devoted to chronicling the palace intrigue, power politics, and daily news that characterizes the drama of college basketball's coaching carousel from February through April.
